Casa Yamoca Opia (Two Spirit House)

Our mission is to provide a safe roof and beloved community for BIPOC two-spirit, queer, nonbinary, trans, and intersex youth as they heal from trauma and step into positions of community leadership.

Casa Yamoca Opia (Two Spirit House) celebrates sexual and gender diversity in the Caribbean and the leadership of queer, intersex, nonbinary, trans, and two-spirit individuals who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, and AfroIndigenous.

Founded in 2020 and based in Boriken, puerto rico, Casa Yamoca Opia creates holistic housing solutions by transforming abandoned properties into sanctuaries for local youth who have been forced from their homes due to family violence such as transphobia and homophobia. For example, we are in the process of restoring a property in San Germán to serve as the headquarters for Casa Yamoca Opia and are examining opportunities for community land ownership.

Cabo Rojo is the home of our seed bank, mother garden, and mobile seed library. In Caguas, we planted and maintain ‘Xicana Freedom Forest,’ an edible, medicinal forest dedicated to our women, girls, and two-spirit ancestors whose lives and traditional ecological and spiritual knowledge have been stolen and abused since our island’s invasion in 1493.
