Casa Yamoca Opia’s founders have been looking for our first property for more than three years.
In 2020, we were promised access to refurbish a closed public school on the west of Borikén. On the day we arrived to initiate our efforts with local allies, we endured local protests and a newly locked fence. Community hostility plus a change in municipal leadership sent us back to zero in early 2021.
As a result, we have focused our efforts on refurbishing one of our founders’ abandoned ancestral properties in San Germán into our home base, while we build strategic partnerships on the island of Borikén and across the global Caribbean diaspora to intersect just services.
